Following Anton Richardson’s dismissal, the 31-year-old coach stepped onto the field to fill the vacant starting job, making her the first woman in history to serve as an on-field coach during a regular round game of the Major League Baseball.
The moment quickly went viral on social networks, and signifies an important step for women, who are slowly gaining ground in the most important baseball league in the world.
Alyssa Nakken Congratulated by Padres Players
Even players from the opposing team, such as Eric Hosmer, came up to congratulate Nakken, who was happy and grateful for the opportunity to be a direct part of the game at Oracle Park in San Francisco.
Although it was an emergency move, it is not ruled out that the Giants will gradually give more opportunities to one of the few women who are part of the MLB world.
Let’s keep in mind that Nakken has worked for the Giants since the 2014 season, when she joined the organization as a baseball operations intern.

San Diego Padres’ star pitcher Yu Darvish recorded one of his worst MLB starts in Tuesday’s April 12 game, which ended in a 13-2 victory for the San Francisco Giants.
The 35-year-old Japanese was on the mound only for 1.2 innings, where he allowed 8 hits and 9 clean runs. He also added 2 tickets and 2 strikeouts.
After this terrible outing, Darvish has a 10.57 ERA in the 2022 Major League Baseball season.
