Betting on the Los Angeles Angels (+150)
The Angels dropped to 45-43 after suffering an 8-5 loss to San Diego in Game 2 of this series Tuesday. What made the loss even more painful for the Halos were the injuries to Shohei Ohtani and Anthony Rendon that forced those two starts to exit from the contest. That’s not to mention the fact that Mike Trout just got placed on the 10-day injured list. But the Angels will continue to fight, as they send Patrick Sandoval to the mound. Sandoval has not been great of late, but he’s actually been pitching better on the road than when the Angels are in Anaheim. While he is just 4-7 with a 4.57 ERA this season, three of his wins came on the road where he’s made eight starts through which he collected a 3.76 ERA.
Starting pitcher: Patrick Sandoval (4-7, 4.57 ERA)
Betting on the San Diego Padres (-175)
For the first time since June 23, the Padres have won back-to-back games after winning the first two games of this series against the Angels. The Padres’ offense has come alive apparently, fueling the team’s current success. After winning the series opener, 10-3, the Padres demolished the Angels in Game 2, as mentioned earlier. The Padres are 4-0 in their last four games against teams from the American League.
Also worth noting is the fact that San Diego is 3-1 in four games heading to Wednesday’s meeting with Los Angeles. On the mound tonight for the Padres in this upcoming contest will be Seth Lugo, who went 0-1 with a 2.25 ERA in three starts back in June. With Ohtani and Rendon unlikely to play Wednesday and Trout on the IL, Lugo is getting a huge plus in his first start of July.
Starting pitcher: Seth Lugo (3-4, 3.59 ERA)
El Jefe’s Prediction on Los Angeles Angels vs San Diego Padres
We will just have to ride with the hot ones, who are clearly the Padres in this series. With the Angels all banged up and the Padres heating up, San Diego will come away with another victory.
Prediction:
The Padres win, 8-4.
