Anthony Rendon’s history with the Anaheim Angels continues to be quite negative, as injuries once again prevent the third baseman from honoring the multi-million dollar contract signed with the organization.

After several days out of action, the Angels reported Friday that the third baseman will miss the rest of the season as he will undergo surgery on his right wrist.

This discomfort is not new for the third baseman, who was placed on the injured list earlier this season for the same reason, and was only able to play a few games before re-aggravating the injury on June 14.

Anthony Rendón was only able to play 45 of the 65 games played by the Angels this season, a period in which he averaged .228 hits with five home runs, 24 RBIs and an OPS of .707.

The absence of the stellar third baseman represents a very important loss for the team led by Phil Nevin, since after a great start to the season, they put together a streak of 13 consecutive losses that took them away from first place in the AL West Division.

Anthony Rendón Has Failed to Fulfill His Obligations Under His Contract

Anthony Rendon inked a seven-year, $245 million contract with the Angels after a fantastic 2019 season with the Washington Nationals, where he won the World Series and led the Major Leagues in RBIs with 126.

However, since then he has only been able to play 155 games in three seasons with Anaheim, taking into account that the 2020 season was shortened by the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2021, he played in 58 games, and this year his season ended early due to the aforementioned injury.

In total, the 32-year-old player has 20 homers, 89 RBIs and a very low offensive line for his standards of .252/.359/.480, this with four seasons and 154 million dollars left on his contract.

Before his arrival at the Angels, Rendón played his first seven seasons in the Major Leagues with the Nationals, a team with which he participated in an All-Star Game and won two Silver Sluggers at third base.
