Arizona D-Backs Minor League Prospect Hits Historic Homerun

The Arizona D-Backs, who sit in last place in the American League West division with a 39-52 record, may have all the offensive power they need in the minor leagues right now after one of their prospects hit a homerun unmatched to date.

Many times, when a home run is hit, it is often said that the player “out of the ballpark”. This time that literally happened, as Leandro Cedeño, a 23-year-old Venezuelan currently playing in Double A for the Amarillo Sod Poodles, hit the ball so hard that it sent the ball into the stadium parking lot.

The hit would end up making the difference at the end of the game, as his team took the 7-6 victory over the San Antonio Missions, but it was not only important in the game, it was also a historic home run in baseball.

Leandro Cedeño’s homerun reached 527 feet, making it the longest homerun ever recorded in either the Major Leagues or Minor Leagues since the Statcast began measuring them in 2015.

The Major League record still belongs to Nomar Mazara, who hit a 505-foot homerun on June 21, 2019, but Cedeño’s will surely be remembered for a long time, and it will be difficult to see a similar one.

What Is Leandro Cedeño’s Position in the Arizona D-Backs Organization?

While his name will long be remembered because of his fantastic homerun, Leandro Cedeño is not among the top 30 prospects of the Arizona D-Backs according to MLB.

However, that may soon change as the Venezuelan is posting 18 homers and 60 RBIs along with a .300/.372/.535 batting average this season, proving that sooner rather than later Double-A will fall short of his talent.

In any case, it will be best to keep his name in case he soon makes it to Major Leaguers, something he will surely aspire to after being a part of the Minor Leagues since 2015, and with the Arizona D-Backs having trouble on offense in recent seasons, a bat like his if he develops correctly wouldn’t hurt at all.
