The Atlanta Braves added star first baseman Matt Olson after agreeing to a trade with the Oakland Athletics, according to a report by journalist Jeff Passan.

In the trade, the Oakland team received four players: Cristian Pache, Shea Langeliers (catcher), and Ryan Cusick and Joey Estes (pitchers).

Consequently, the current MLB champions manage to reinforce their lineup with this change, which, at the same time, takes them out of the race for the signing of who had been their best player in recent years: Freddie Freeman.

It is paramount to point out that the Atlanta Braves will assume Olson’s contract for the next two years, and the player is expected to have a 12-million-dollar salary for the 2022 season.

On the other hand, Freeman is expected to sign with the Los Angeles Dodgers or the New York Yankees: two powerful teams who have had him on their sight during the offseason, and who surely want him to strengthen their teams respectively in order to get to the World Series.

Matt Olson had a brilliant performance in last season’s Major Leagues wearing an A’s uniform. In the end, he consolidated himself as one of the best left-handed hitters in baseball nowadays.

After being on the field for 156 games in 2021, the 27-year-old finished with a .271 batting average and a .371 OBP, with 39 homers and 111 RBIs. These are numbers that crown a campaign in which he was called to the All-Star Game for the first time in his career.
