Midfielder Carlos Rodríguez suffered an injury last Friday in the game against Mazatlán and had to come off the bench. Cruz Azul not only failed to win its most recent game, but will now be without one of its best players for the final stretch of the regular season Clausura 2022. Carlos Rodríguez was fouled by Jefferson Intriago and was unable to continue in the match.
Intriago gave a hard blow to Rodríguez in the right heel and after the studies, the diagnosis was that Charly suffered a fissure of the fibula.
The team, known as “Máquina Cementera” (Cementera Machine), issued a statement on its social networks in which the extent of Carlos Rodríguez’s injury was disclosed. Despite knowing the possible recovery time, they explained that they will deal with it according to the evolution of the player himself.
The estimated recovery time is 4 to 6 weeks, which indicates that Carlos Rodríguez may not be able to return to the field this tournament. The loss concerns the entire team, as this Tuesday they will play the second leg of the semifinals of the Concachampions 2022 and are down 2-1 on aggregate against Pumas.
As for the Clausura 2022, Cruz Azul is in the playoffs and can still aspire to direct qualification to the quarterfinals, but they have been showing ups and downs and the absence of Carlos Rodríguez does not bode well. Cruz Azul is analyzing requesting the disqualification of Jefferson Intriago as they consider that the action committed on Carlos Rodríguez was reckless, and there should be some type of punishment. The referee, Erick Yair Miranda, simply gave Intriago a yellow card.
Carlos Rodríguez’s Blow Is Believed to Have Been Intentional
At a press conference on Monday, Cruz Azul coach Juan Reynoso lamented Rodríguez’s injury but seemed optimistic: “It’s unfortunate about Carlos, hopefully, the estimated recovery time will be met and he could join us in the Liguilla.”
However, he spoke about what the hit was for him, he said that it was intentional and that he hopes that measures will be taken in this regard: “I am concerned that the play was not sized during the game itself, it is clear to us when it is a kick with bad intentions and when it is a kick to cut and hopefully the people who make decisions will do it in a good way because that is no way to play”.
If Cruz Azul made the request to the Disciplinary Commission, there should be an answer in the next few days as to whether the player from Mazatlán will be punished. Cruz Azul has four games left to play in the regular phase of the Clausura 2022, against Chivas, Querétaro, San Luis and the last one will be the Clásico Joven against Club América.
