The 2022 Concachampions Semifinals will take place on Tuesday, April 5 and Wednesday, April 6.
The CONCACAF Champions League is coming to its end, with only four teams left to compete for a place in the final, which will give them a ticket to represent the region at the Club World Cup. There are two teams from Liga MX and two from MLS, but they will have to eliminate each other, so that in the end the final will have one representative from Mexican soccer and one from the United States.
The 2022 Concachampions Semifinals will pit Pumas vs Cruz Azul and the Seattle Sounders vs New York City FC.
Pumas vs Cruz Azul
This Tuesday, April 5 at 7:00 p.m. (Pacific time), Pumas will host Cruz Azul at the Estadio Olímpico Universitario for the first part of the Concachampions 2022 Semifinals.
Pumas qualified for this stage after defeating the New England Revolution of the MLS in a penalty shootout, after tying the aggregate score at 3-3. The university team recovered from a 3-0 deficit in the first leg to achieve the feat at home in front of their own fans on March 16.
On the other hand, Cruz Azul reaches this stage of the continental competition after defeating MLS side CF Montreal on aggregate by a score of 2-1. The “Cementeros” won the first leg by a 1-1 score at the Estadio Azteca, and sealed their passage with a 1-1 draw in Canada.
Seattle Sounders vs New York City FC
This Wednesday, April 6 at 7 p.m. (Pacific time), the Seattle Sounders will host New York City FC at Lumen Field in the second match of the 2022 Concachampions Semifinals.
The Sounders raised their hand as one of the MLS contenders to win the Concachampions by defeating Club Leon of Liga MX in the first match by a score of 3-0. In the second match, with advantage in their favor, the Seattle team did not make much of an effort and won the second match after a 1-1 draw in Mexican territory, for a 1-4 aggregate score in their favor.
Meanwhile, reigning MLS Cup champions New York City FC also did very well in the first leg of their quarter-final, beating Comunicaciones of Guatemala 3-1 at home. However, the situation was very different for the second match. With the score against them, the Central American team looked for a way to impose its home advantage and succeeded, winning that match by a score of 4-2, but the 5-5 draw on aggregate gave the New York team the win on away goals and with that they obtained their ticket to the Concachampions 2022 Semifinals.
