Having won their fourteenth league title in Denmark in the 2021/22 season, Copenhagen earned the right to play in this Champions League playoff round, in which they will attempt to qualify for the group stage of the tournament for the first time since 2016/17,when they finished third in their group.
This will be only their seventh meeting in history against a Turkish club, and their first against Trabzonspor, so their results in those matches are promising since they won every home game against teams of that nationality and allowed no goals in any of them. These matches were against Galatasaray (1-0, Champions League group stage 2013/14), Istanbul Basaksehir (3-0, Europa League round of 16 2019/20), and Sivasspor (5-0, Conference League qualifying round 2021/22).

Trabzonspor caught everybody by surprise in Turkey last season after finishing as league champions for the seventh time in their history and for the first time since 1984, so they will hope to keep the momentum going in this new season in order to attempt to qualify for the Champions League group stage for the first time since the 2011/12 campaign.
This will be their fifth meeting with a Danish club in their history, and interestingly the previous four were against Boldklubben 1903 in the 1977/78 and 1991/92 seasons, a club that in 1992 merged with Kjobenhavns Boldklub to form the current F.C. Copenhagen, so it could be said that these two casts are old acquaintances. In addition, they lost both of their away games at the time, 2-0 and 1-0.

Copenhagen are struggling to find consistency at the start of the 2022/23 season in Europe as they alternated between wins and defeats in the first five rounds of the Danish league.Two of those defeats occurred at home, and one of them in their last game at their stadium. Besides, taking into account the number of absentees in the squad, this match could be complicated for them.
For their part, Trabzonspor could not have started the defense of their league title in a better way, as they have a perfect record after two league games and began their 2022/23 season by winning the Turkish Super Cup. In addition, it is important to mention that they have yet to allow a single goal to their opponents, although the loss of Edin Visca could make their attack less incisive on the flanks.
