This summer’s moves and transfers in European soccer started just a few days ago; however, the number of moves that have already been made has been rather considerable, leading us to believe that it will be a very busy summer in the offices of the old continent’s clubs.
Barcelona has already signed its first players for the upcoming season, Premier League clubs continue to spend recklessly, and many other things have occurred. Here at JefeBet, we’ve put together a quick rundown of the major events of July 4, 2022.
Official European Soccer Transfers and Moves From July 4, 2022
Two new faces arrive at Barcelona from free agency
Despite their financial difficulties, Barcelona has made smart moves by signing two of the top free agents available.
The first of these is Franck Kessié, who arrives after finishing his contract with AC Milan to reinforce the “culé” midfield. The player from Côte d’Ivoire will be linked to the club until 2026 and will have a termination clause of 500 million euros.
The second is Denmark’s Andreas Christensen, who joined Chelsea in the 2021/22 season and will now wear the Blaugrana colors after signing a contract with Barcelona until 2026. Like Kessie, his termination clause is €500 million.
Manchester City adds new midfielder to squad
The Citizens strengthened their midfield at the expense of a Premier League rival with the official signing of Kalvin Phillips from Leeds United, for 49 million euros and a deal until 2028.
It is worth remembering that Manchester City lost Fernandinho after he returned to his native Brazil, so the arrival of Phillips adds another defensive midfielder who can provide balance to Pep Guardiola’s scheme and who will be direct competition for Rodri in that position.
Gunners finally announce new striker
Gabriel Jesus’ arrival at Arsenal was no secret to anyone, but finally the north London club officialized his arrival from Manchester City for €52 million, with the player signing a contract until 2027.
Gabriel Jesus lost his place at Manchester City with the arrival of Erling Haaland and soon-to-arrive Julian Alvarez, and now joins Arsenal to fill the void left by the departures of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in January and Alexandre Lacazette to Lyon in the same transfer window.
Two newcomers to the Premier League strengthen their ranks to fight for relegation
Both Fulham and Nottingham Forest also made two signings official today as both look to stay in the Premier League for back-to-back seasons.
Fulham secured the services of Joao Palhinha from Sporting Lisbon for a total of €20 million, and the lanky Portuguese defensive midfielder signed a contract that will tie him to the club until 2027.
As for Nottingham Forest, they also reinforced their defensive zone with French central defender Giulian Biancone, who arrives from Ligue 1 after being signed from Troyes for 10 million euros.
An old veteran returns to Ligue 1 with Clermont Foot
At 33 years of age and after a five-year stint in Europe, Maxime Gonalons returns to Ligue 1 for Clermont Foot, who signed him as a free agent and signed a contract until 2025.
Gonalons began his career in France with Lyon with whom he played from 2009 to 2017, and although he did not return to his old club, he will surely be happy to be back home after representing Roma, Sevilla and Granada in other European leagues.
