There are still just a few hours to go before the 2022 Final Four takes place, and ticket sales have reached historic figures in the last few days.
The first meeting between Duke and North Carolina in the history of the NCAA Tournament is more than enough reason to generate tremendous anticipation among American basketball fans.
In addition, this could be legendary coach Mike Krzyzewski‘s last game at the helm of the Blue Devils, something that logically generates a lot of morbid curiosity among fans, especially because his farewell could take place against his great rivals in college basketball.
“This weekend’s Final Four games in New Orleans are among the best-selling NCAA tournaments in StubHub’s history,” said Michael Silveira, a representative of the renowned ticketing site.
Silveira added, “Overall, ticket sales for the semifinals are on par with the sales we saw in the days leading up to the tournament in 2019. With excitement building for the first showdown of the tournament between Duke and North Carolina and what could be Coach Krzyzewski’s final game, we expect to see demand increase even more as we get closer to Saturday.”
Villanova and Kansas star in the other semifinal matchup, another game that promises to generate exciting moments at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans.
This is an event that, despite not being about a professional sport, manages to paralyze the United States every year, especially when the protagonists are universities with a lot of history, as it’s happening in this edition.
Final Four 2022 ticket prices
The average price of tickets sold for the Final Four is $1,045, the second highest in the history of this great college basketball event. The first place was imposed in 2015 with an average price of $1,260, according to data provided by the site StubHub.
As for the cheapest ticket, the price is $240, while the most expensive package is around $8,000. Although at this point being able to get a ticket means paying a tremendous surcharge.
Mike Krzyzewski’s Numbers with Duke
Krzyzewski at 75 is going through his final year as Duke’s head coach after leading the varsity team since the 1980-81 campaign.
After more than 40 years as a college basketball coach with the Blue Devils, the American has a record of 1,129 wins and 308 losses.
In addition to his brilliant career with Duke, Krzyzewski won three gold medals as coach of Team USA at the 2008, 2012 and 2016 Olympics.
There is no doubt that we are talking about a future member of the Basketball Hall of Fame, which in its class of 2022 has Manu Ginóbili as its main figure.
