The Canadian GP is the ninth race on the Formula 1 calendar in 2022, and it will also be the first of the year to be run on the American continent. In the last five years this Grand Prix has only had two different winners and this could be the opportunity for a third to enter the records.
The Canadian GP will be held from June 17 to 19 at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal, marking the return of this track to the calendar after two years since the last Grand Prix was in 2019, being the 56th edition in history.
Next, we present you who have been the last drivers to win at the Canadian GP.
1.- Lewis Hamilton
The Briton Lewis Hamilton was the winner in the last edition of this Grand Prix in 2019, and was seconded on the podium by Sebastian Vettel, and Charles Leclerc. Hamilton is one of the two top winners at this circuit, along with Michael Schumacher who has won seven times. He was crowned winner in 2007, 2010, and 2012 with McLaren, and in 2015, 2016, 2017, and 2019 with Mercedes. He has not won only one of the last 5 races in Canada.
2.- Sebastian Vettel
German Sebastian Vettel, driving for Ferrari in 2018, managed to end Hamilton’s consecutive winning streak in Montreal. That podium was completed by the Finn Valtteri Bottas of Mercedes, and Max Verstappen of Red Bull.
Vettel has only two wins in Montreal, the first coming in 2013, when he was racing for Red Bull.
3.- Daniel Ricciardo
In 2014, Aussie Daniel Ricciardo, a Red Bull driver at the time, managed to fly the checkered flag at Gilles Villeneuve. So far, this is the first and only time Ricciardo has won in Canada. The podium was completed by Nico Rosberg of Mercedes and Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull.
4.- Jenson Button
Jenson Button, British, was the winner at the 2011 Montreal GP as a McLaren driver. That is the only victory he had at this circuit in his career. The podium was completed by the drivers who at that time were part of Red Bull, the German Sebastian Vettel and the Australian Mark Webber.
5.- Robert Kubica
At the 2008 Canadian GP, Pole Robert Kubica emerged victorious, having started from second on the grid. The podium was completed by Nick Heidfeld of BMW Sauber, and David Coulthard of Red Bull.
