The coach Gerardo Martino remains firm in his decision regarding the assembly of the Mexican National Team in this World Cup process and he still does not summon several players who are going through a good time.

The Argentine Gerardo Martino has been quite criticized by the press and the Mexican fans for the decisions he has made recently in the assembly of the national team. Not only has he stopped calling players who could be an important part of the functioning of the national squad, but he has also had a hard time getting positive results. Besides he has even been surpassed by the United States National Team in CONCACAF tournaments.

Martino had a good start with the Mexican National Team: he captured a football idea, and got positive results. But something happened, and, at some point, what used to work well stopped doing so, and for many it was because he stopped calling important players, being one of the main absentees the striker Javier “Chicharito” Hernández.

The Mexican National Team will face the last three matches of the top-seeded hexagonal group final of CONCACAF on March 24th, 27th and 30th. So Gerardo Martino has just presented to the payroll and the “Chicharito” is not listed, despite the fact that Rogelio Funes Mori is injured.

Chicharito’s abscence draws attention since he is the top scorer of The Tricolor, and, although he no longer plays in European football, he continues to be active in the LA Galaxy of MLS where he continues to score goals.

However, Hernández is not the only absentee that for many should be present since the press and the fans consider that the coach has been unfair to some elements that participate in Liga MX such as Alan Mozo, Carlos Acevedo and Erik Lira.

De Mozo is said to have had discipline problems when he was called up to the Pre-Olympic Games, but in terms of his football level he is having a great campaign with Pumas, being a key element. He was called up by Gerardo Martino in 2019, but then nothing happened despite his good performance.

Erik Lira is also having good performances with Cruz Azul, but he is still not on Martino’s radar. The coach has a wide variety of options in midfield to choose from and perhaps for now the 21-year-old fails to convince him.

Regarding the goalkeeper Carlos Acevedo, there are divided opinions. Although his performances are good with Santos Laguna, his experience could be something that is playing against him since the coach is considering goalkeepers like Guillermo Ochoa and Alfredo Talavera. Both are also at a very good level, so whichever takes the title will not put the goal at risk.

When March ends, it will be known if Gerardo Martino’s decisions were the right ones. For now Mexico must compete for the ticket to Qatar 2022 with the players that the coach has summoned.
