The 2026 World Cup will be hosted by the United States, Mexico and Canada, and the cities and stadiums that will host the FIFA event have just been revealed.
The 2026 World Cup will be special for several reasons: first of all, because it will be the first time that three countries jointly organize the most important tournament in the world at national team level. In the past, South Korea and Japan had already teamed up for the 2002 edition, but this time United States, Mexico and Canada will be the hosts.
It will also be the first World Cup with a slightly different format, since the tournament will feature 48 teams rather than 32.
And thinking precisely about how special the tournament will be, FIFA has sought to choose the best host cities.
The three countries in charge of the organization had nominated some venues to host the 2026 World Cup matches, and this Thursday, June 16, an event was held in New York City to announce which ones were chosen.
The 2026 World Cup will feature 80 matches, with the United States hosting 60 of them, while Mexico and Canada will each host 10.
16 locations were picked from 22 suggestions for all matches: 11 in the United States, three in Mexico, and two in Canada.
