New York Mets starter Jacob deGrom has revealed what are his plans after the 2022 Major League season ends.

The two-time winner of the National League Cy Young got everybody by surprise when he said that he wants to test free agency for the 2023 campaign, although the possibility of signing a contract that allows him to stay with the team from New York for the rest of his career is not ruled out.

«I’m excited about this team, love being a Met, I think it would be really cool to be one my entire career. But the plan is to exercise that option and be in constant contact in the offseason with the Mets and Steve Cohen and the front office», explains the 33-year-old right pitcher, according to Deesha Thosar’s report for the New York Daily News.

Let’s not forget that the right pitcher, who signed a five-year, $137.5 million deal in 2019, has just missed a good part of last season due to an elbow injury.

Everything could change between deGrom and the Citi Field team during the next few months. However, the franchise is really enthusiastic at the moment about Max Scherzer’s arrival, among others, who will definitely boost a team that is looking towards returning to the World Series in 2022.

Jacob deGrom has 8 seasons in the Major Leagues, all of which wearing the New York Mets uniform, where he has managed to become the most dominant pitcher in baseball.

For his career in MLB, deGrom has a record of 77 wins and 53 losses with an ERA of 2.50 and a WHIP of 1.01. In addition, he records a total of 1,505 strikeouts in 1,261.2 innings of work.

Even though Jacob deGrom is a pitcher who got to the major leagues a little late (he was 26 years old at the time), no time was practically wasted on his way to consolidating as a true baseball superstar.
