New York Mets star pitcher Jacob deGrom showed progress in his recovery after undergoing further tests on his shoulder, according to information provided by the team ahead of Tuesday’s game against the St. Louis Cardinals.

Even though that the two-time Cy Young winner is recovering from a right shoulder injury, he does not have a tentative date for his return yet to the rotation of a metropolitan team that is currently in first position in the Eastern Division of the National League, with a record of 24 wins and 14 losses.

At the moment, the only certainty regarding the veteran’s future is that he will continue to work on his pitching program on flat ground, according to a report by journalist Anthony DiComo of MLB.com.

Likewise, it’s important to note that when deGrom gets the green light to pitch off the mound, he’ll have to serve an assignment of at least three rehab starts before joining a rotation led by another multiple Cy Young Award winner: Max Scherzer.

When the 33-year-old star starter is back in the MLB, manager Buck Showalter is expected to make the decision to remove either Taijuan Walker or Tylor Megill from the starting ranks. The latter has been a pleasant surprise this season, with a WHIP of 1.12 after 7 starts, and 37 strikeouts in 34.2 innings of work.

There should be no rush from the Citi Field team’s brass regarding the debut of their best pitcher, as they currently hold a comfortable 6-game lead over second place in their division.

After eight seasons in the Major Leagues with the Mets, deGrom is 77-53 with a 2.50 ERA and 1.01 WHIP. He also has an impressive 1,505 strikeouts after 1,261.2 innings pitched.

As for his individual achievements, the man born in Florida has 4 calls to the MLB All-Star Game, 2 Cy Young awards, Rookie of the Year (2014), and an ERA title.

He is one of the most dominant right-handed pitchers of the last decade, so every news about his recovery generates a strong convulsion within a Mets team that looks like it has excellent chances of reaching the World Series, as long as deGrom shows his usual level of MVP.
