Finishing for the second consecutive season as second in the NBA MVP voting could have taken a backseat to Joel Embiid after receiving big news for his career on Thursday.
According to journalist Anna Orso of The Philadelphia Inquirer, the Philadelphia 76ers center was unanimously selected by the Philadelphia City Council as the “Philadelphia Most Valuable” of the year. This recognition was chosen by the 17 most respected politicians in the city, and it came after this group highlighted that Embiid should have been the NBA MVP.
The document where the news is reported highlights that the Cameroonian is an example to follow due to the success he has had in his career despite the late incursion into the sport. The legislative body also made sure to recognize Embiid’s heroic efforts in this year’s playoffs, playing through a torn ligament in his thumb, a concussion, and an orbital fracture.
Joel Embiid Finally Won Something over Nikola Jokić
What is missing in the document, and that is very striking, is the presence of Nikola Jokić. Because, let’s be clear with something, in the great career of Joel Embiid, the Serb from the Denver Nuggets must occupy a very special place. Don’t you think?
Although, thinking about it, Jokić could also be a little jealous. Imagine having the honor of receiving an award like that in a city that has given so many important figures to public life and is considered the city of brotherly love. Could it be that the Serb receives an equal one in his country? It wouldn’t be fair to Embiid. He should win something at least.
And of course we have nothing against the 76ers player here. Rather, it’s the other way round. Here we respect and follow all those who contribute to what unites us: sport.
So congratulations Joel. What better recognition than this to pass the bad drink of two second places in the MVP? That’s a unique award for a unique professional basketball player.
