After a great season in 2021 in which they finished second in the East of the tough SEC Conference with an 11-3 record, the Wildcats are off to a good start and are looking to repeat their 20-13 win over the Gators last year.
On offense, things started well for quarterback Will Levis, who collected 303 yards through the air with three touchdowns. However, the big question mark for Kentucky, especially against a ground defense as good as the Gators’, is their ground attack, where they gained barely 50 yards. In addition, they may have to play again without injured Chris Rodriguez.
The defense, meanwhile, responded to a Miami-OH offense by allowing only 13 points and 280 total yards. That performance will have to hold up against a much more dangerous Gators offense that came from behind several times against Utah.
Betting on the Florida Gators
- Season record: 1-0.
- Spread: -5.5
- Moneyline: (-225).
- Over/Under: 52.5.
In Florida, things started very well with an important victory against the struggling University of Utah. The win gives the Gators hope to improve their 6-6, 2021 record, and to face this conference match against Kentucky with more peace of mind after finishing with a 2-6 record in this type of games.
Quarterback Anthony Richardson led his team on an important offensive series to seal the victory in the fourth quarter, and finished with 168 yards through the air and 106 more on the ground with three touchdowns. This ground game could be the key against Kentucky, especially because of how well it worked by registering 284 yards against a great ground defense like Utah.
Defensively, the Gators might have no worries, as the Wildcats demonstrated that they do not have many arguments on the ground, and while they had some issues against Utah, they are unlikely to have them again against a Kentucky offensive line that was not very solid.
JefeBet Prediction
There is no doubt that this will be a close and hard-fought game. Kentucky has a potent aerial attack and the defense responded to a good Miami-OH offense in week one.
The ability of the Gators’ quarterback to throw and run with the ball will be key. Meanwhile, the defense was able to stop Utah in crucial moments of that Week 1 game.
It is precisely that defense that will make the difference this Saturday. The Wildcats have been depleted in their ground attack and while in their first week they were able to stop their opponent so that this would not be a problem, the Gators could take advantage of this situation.
Prediction: Florida Spread .
