The Philadelphia Phillies will have some pretty powerful outfields after reaching a multi-year deal with Ranger Kyle Schwarber.
As revealed by Jon Heyman of MLB Network, Schwarber reached an agreement with the organization for the next four seasons and 79 million dollars.
Schwarber was one of the most prized hitters in the free agent market after a dream 2021 season. As in 113 games between the Washington Nationals and the Boston Red Sox he dispatched 32 home runs, 16 of them in the month of June, and drove in 71 runs.
In his seven-season stint in the majors , Kyle Schwarber has dedicated himself to batting, and his status as a left-handed hitter portends many home runs for the Phillies in a stadium like Citizens Bank Park, which has one of the shortest right fields in the sport.
Last season was the third in his career to hit at least 30 home runs and that earned him a first-time all-time call-up to the MLB All-Star Game.
Another important fact of the arrival of the 29-year-old outfielder to the Phillies is that he will be reunited with Kevin Long. The current Philadelphia hitting coach gave a second life to Kyle Schwarber’s batting, which had a resounding fall in 2019, his final year with the Chicago Cubs.
After reaching the hands of the coach, in Washington, Schwarber was another in the batting box and quickly forgot those pyrrhic 11 home runs and .188 average with the Cubs, an organization with which he won his only World Series ring in the unforgettable title of 2016.
Bryce Harper Happy for the Arrival of Kyle Schwarber
Kyle Schwarber will join last season’s National League MVP Bryce Harper and Venezuelan Odubel Herrera, who also signed wednesday for one season.
When asked by reporters about the arrival of his new partner, the slugger, who is already in the Spring Trainning of the Phillies, did not hesitate to show his joy for the new acquisition.
“He’s a proven winner,” Bryce Harper told MLB.com’s Todd Zolecki before the team’s training at BayCare Ballpark. “Wherever he’s gone, he’s done a very good job. It just gives us a great opportunity to fill that void in the left field, and it gives us a great opportunity to do much better.”
“Seeing that the Braves are improving, seeing that the Mets are improving, we also have to stay on. We are here to win. I know the fans want to build a winning team and this organization wants to have a winning team. Being able to add someone like that will help us a lot more. I hope we’re not done and we can get someone else on the market,” the two-time MVP concluded.
