Next Tuesday, July 19, a new edition of the Major League Baseball All-Star Game will be played at Dodger Stadium with a large number of Latino players participating.
After the rosters were confirmed this Sunday, a total of 25 Latin American stars will see action in the mid-season classic, and here at JefeBet we bring you a list remembering those Hispanic figures who most often received the call for this duel.
Latinos with the Most All-Star Games in MLB History
David Ortiz (10) – Dominican Republic
It was not until 2004, his eighth season in the Major Leagues and his second with the Red Sox, that David Ortiz received his first call-up to an All-Star Game. From then on, he participated in 10 of them, missing only those of 2009, 2014 and 2015.
Yadier Molina (10) – Puerto Rico
The Puerto Rican catcher is a regular at the All-Star Games as he is considered one of the bests in history at the position. Yadier Molina attended seven in a row between 2009 and 2015, while his last call-up was last season.
Albert Pujols (11) – Dominican Republic
With the Legend Player call-up he received this season, Albert Pujols reaches his 11th All-Star Game. While he attended nine of them between 2001 and 2010, his slump with the Angels dented him in the last decade to only being selected again in 2015.
Miguel Cabrera (12) – Venezuela
Like Pujols, Venezuela’s Miguel Cabrera added his 12th appearance by being selected as a Legend Player by Commissioner Rob Manfred. The Detroit Tigers’ shoveler had not been called up since 2016, when he strung together a streak of seven consecutive picks.
Manny Ramírez (12) – Dominican Republic
Despite a late start to his All-Star Game participation, Manny Ramírez managed to reach 12 of them in his MLB prime. After his first call-up in 1995, Ramírez went on to string together 11 consecutive seasons of selection between 1998 and 2008. From then on, he did not participate any more until his retirement in 2011.
Roberto Alomar (12) – Puerto Rico
Considered one of the best second basemen of all time, MLB Hall of Famer Roberto Alomar played all his All-Star Games consecutively after being called up from 1991 to 2001 with three different teams. In addition, in the 1998 edition he was the MVP.
Luis Aparicio (13) – Venezuela
Venezuelan shortstop Luis Aparicio appeared in 10 All-Star Game rosters but totaled 13, since a couple of them came when there were two games per season in the 1960s.
Mariano Rivera (13) – Panama
The best closer of all times could not miss this event, which is why he was called 13 times to the All-Star Game. All of his appearances, of course, took place with the Yankees, and in the 2013 edition, Mariano Rivera‘s last MLB campaign, he was selected as the MVP.
Iván Rodríguez (14) – Puerto Rico
Like Molina, Iván Rodríguez is on the list of the best catchers in history and his 14 All-Star Game call-ups indicate it. Between 1992 and 2001, he had 10 consecutive participations and after two years of absence he had four more.
Roberto Clemente (15) – Puerto Rico
Before his tragic death in a plane crash, Roberto Clemente was a regular participant in Major League Baseball’s All-Star Game. Like Aparicio, the Puerto Rican outfielder participated in a couple of seasons in two games and in total was called up to 15 between 1960 and 1972, only missing out in 1968.
Rod Carew (18) – Panama
The Panamanian Hall of Famer is fifth on the all-time list of All-Star Game call-ups after being selected in 18 consecutive seasons. From his debut in 1967 to 1984, Rod Carew did not miss a single classic, his only miss being 1985, his last year in the Major Leagues.
