The semifinals of the Liga MX were defined after the exciting matches they gave us in the quarterfinal series. In this article, we give you the time and date of the matches between the four teams that will fight for the title.
There were no surprises this time and the teams that were the best during the Clausura 2022 regular season advanced to the Liga MX semifinals: Pachuca, Tigres, Atlas, and América.
Since the repechage was used again in the Mexican league, it is the first time that the four teams that had the best performance in the regular phase have reached the semifinals. Since the Guardianes 2020 tournament, the re-qualification system was implemented, but on that occasion América was eliminated by Chivas in the quarterfinals, after having qualified in third position.
In Clausura 2021, the top four in the general classification were also about to appear in the Liga MX semifinals, but América, who finished 2nd, and Monterrey, who finished 4th, were eliminated in the quarterfinals.
For the Apertura 2021, América fell under the curse of the super leader and despite having made an almost perfect regular phase, he was eliminated by Pumas in quarterfinals and the firsts from 1 to 4 could not appear. This time there will be those who in numbers were the best teams of Clausura 2022 and promise to fight to get the title.
Liga MX Semifinals: Atlas vs. Tigres
The current Mexican soccer champion, Atlas, wants the two-time championship. The red and black team defeated their arch-rival, Chivas, in the quarterfinal series by an aggregate score of 3-2, to reach the semifinals of Liga MX. In the first leg they won by a score of 2-1, and in the second leg a 1-1 draw gave them the ticket to the next instance.
For its part, Tigres is coming off a 1-1 aggregate draw against Cruz Azul, but thanks to its better position in the general table, it had no major problem staying alive in the tournament. They won as visitors at the Azteca Stadium by 0-1, while they lost on their field by the same score.
The first leg will be played on Wednesday, May 18 at 7:00 p.m. (Pacific time) at the Jalisco Stadium.
Liga MX Semifinals: America vs. Pachuca
Club América had three tournaments without being able to pass the quarterfinals, and finally they did. They defeated Puebla 4-3 on aggregate and are now in the Liga MX semifinals. In the first leg, they achieved a heaven-sent 1-1 draw in the final stretch of the match and thus avoided being at a disadvantage in the next game.
In the second leg, those from Coapa took advantage of their local condition to prevail by a score of 3-2.
Pachuca finished the regular phase as the absolute leader and are still alive in the tournament. They come from beating Atlético de San Luis by a marvelous score of 5-4. In the first leg, they tied 2-2, something surprising considering that the Potosí team reached the quarterfinals from the playoffs and gave a fight to the team that was more solid in the regular phase.
For the second leg, despite being at home, the team from Hidalgo did not look much better. Even so, they managed to win by a score of 3-2, scoring the last goal in stoppage time, although they still qualified with the tie on aggregate for their position in the table.
The first leg will be played on Thursday, May 19 at 6:00 p.m. (Pacific time) at the Azteca Stadium.
