On April 6, 2021, Liverpool and Real Madrid met in the Champions League quarterfinals. The Olympic Stadium in Kyiv dressed up to host the final between Real Madrid and Liverpool on May 26, 2018. The French Karim Benzema opened the scoring at minute 51, and Sadio Mané equalized at 55′, but Gareth Bale became the hero of the Merengue team by scoring a double at 64 and 83 to seal the 3-1 in the scoreboard. That was the thirteenth win of the Spanish team in the competition.
Liverpool vs Real Madrid – 2014/15 UEFA Champions League Group Stage
On October 22, 2014, Liverpool hosted Madrid at Anfield on matchday three of the Champions League group stage. Cristiano Ronaldo put Madrid ahead in the 23rd minute, and Karim Benzema scored a pair of goals in the 30th and 41st minutes to finish the match 3-0.
The “Reds” returned to visit the Santiago Bernabéu, hoping to get the three points they needed, but they couldn’t do much and ended up losing 1-0, with a goal from Benzema.
Liverpool vs Real Madrid – Round of 16 UEFA Champions League 2008/09
Liverpool in the 2008-2009 season managed to qualify for the knockout stages of the Champions League and ran into Madrid along the way. The first game was at the Santiago Bernabéu and ended up being a 0-1 victory for the “Reds”, thanks to a goal from Yossi Benayoun.

Curiously, their first confrontation in the Champions League was also in a final and on French territory, except that the setting for the final of the 1980-81 season was the Parc des Princes. With an agonizing goal from Alan Kennedy in the 82nd minute, Liverpool were crowned champions, this being their third title in Europe’s top club competition.
