Given that this MLB Power Ranking focuses on recent results, it was unavoidable to include the Atlanta Braves, who have won their previous 11 games and are 5.5 games behind the New York Mets, second in the National East Division. With 15 home runs in the last seven days, they are the second-best team in the Major Leagues, and their 38 runs scored are the third-best number. What about their pitching? It’s the third best in the league with 2.33 in that same time period.
Philadelphia Phillies
Like the Braves, after the firing of Joe Girardi, the Philadelphia Phillies have gone on a nine-game winning streak in the last 10 games and have made the Eastern Division of the old circuit very exciting. At 30-30, the Phillies are now beginning to prove to be one of the top five teams in all of baseball this season. Oakland Athletics
The Oakland Athletics have just become the club that everyone expected to be left out after a strong start to the season. They have lost nine of their last 10 games and their 21-42 record puts them 17 games behind the Astros in the AL West and in our disappointing MLB Power Rankings. While their offense remains among the mid-table teams, the Athletics’ big problem has been their pitching: the one that, in the last seven days, left the fourth-worst ERA in MLB with 6.52.
Kansas City Royals
The patient is definitely not improving. After losing in six of their last ten games, the Kansas City Royals maintain the worst record in the Major Leagues by showing a record of 20-39. At 13.5 games behind the Twins in the AL Central, the Royals have the same problem as the A’s and Reds, with a pitching so poor that their 5.57 ERA over the last seven days keeps them as the third in the league so far this season with 5.18.
Cincinnati Reds
Little by little, the Cincinnati Reds are trying to get out of the pit, but losing seven of 10 games does not help improve the 21-39 record. While the offense is trying to help with 36 runs scored in the last seven days, Cincinnati does not improve from the mound and remains as the second-worst collective ERA so far in the 2022 season, with an average of earned runs allowed per nine innings of 5.30.
