August is starting in the Major Leagues, and with it comes a new edition of JefeBet‘s MLB Power Rankings. With the MLB trade deadline ending tomorrow and the final stretch of the season already underway, the teams that will compete for a spot in the postseason and those that will simply wait for the end of the season to forget about it are beginning to get on track.

Below, we’ll break down which teams have excelled and which have been getting worse in the final week of the Major League Baseball season after the All-Star Game.

MLB Power Rankings 2022 for August 1st

Top 3

Los Angeles Dodgers

MLB Power Rankings

Just one game shy of matching the Yankees for the best record of the season, the Dodgers’ 68-33 mark is number one in the National League and gives them a comfortable 12-game lead in the West Division.

The team led by Dave Roberts posted a 21-5 record during July and has a 7-3 record in its last ten games. In addition, last week, no team scored more runs than them, as they stepped on the plate 39 times.

New York Mets

MLB Power Rankings

The Mets have been one of the best teams this season and with a streak of six consecutive wins have kept the Braves’ offense at bay in the National League East Division.

The New York team is 64-37 this season and last week they had the second-best ERA in all of baseball at 2.40, and the best offense in batting average (.320), OBP (.376) and slugging (.564).

Toronto Blue Jays

MLB Power Rankings

After a somewhat turbulent first half, the Blue Jays surged during July and clinched the top wild card spot in the American League with a 57-45 record.

The Toronto team won eight of their last ten games and, last week, they were able to win thanks to a substantial improvement in their collective pitching, which finished with a 3.17 record, the ninth best in all of baseball.

Bottom 3

Boston Red Sox

MLB Power Rankings

While they are just 3.5 games out of the last American wild card, the Red Sox are still in free fall and with seven losses in their last ten games they dropped to the bottom of the American East Division with a 51-52 record.

Boston’s team last week lost four of seven games at home and their collective pitching remains one of the worst in all of the Major Leagues. Proof of this is that in the last seven days, their ERA of 4.43 was the fourth highest in the championship.

Pittsburgh Pirates

MLB Power Rankings

Despite struggling all season to avoid sinking, the Pirates were unable to escape and now sit at the bottom of the National’s Central Division with a 40-62 record.

The Pittsburgh team has seven consecutive losses due to the fact that its offense remains one of the worst in the circuit. Not only was their 4.43 ERA the seventh highest in the league over the last week, but their 16 runs scored were the lowest number in the majors.

Washington Nationals

MLB Power Rankings

Amidst the trade rumors of Juan Soto and Josh Bell, the Nationals remain the worst team in all of baseball at 35-68.

In the last ten games they have a 5-5 record and in the last week their performance both offensively and from the mound did not suffer many changes. The Washington squad scored 22 runs, ranking as the ninth team who were least often at the plate, and their collective 4.75 ERA was the third highest in the league.
