We have arrived to July’s mid-season break, and with it comes a new edition of JefeBet’s MLB Power Rankings. With just over 50% of the games played by each organization, and with the summer officially underway, the teams that will compete for a spot in the postseason and those that will simply wait for the end of the campaign to forget about it are beginning to get on track.
Below, we’ll break down which teams have excelled and which have been getting worse in the final week of the Major League Baseball season after the All-Star Game.
MLB Power Rankings 2022 July 25th
Top 3
Los Angeles Dodgers
If anyone thought that the mid-season break would cool the Dodgers, the Los Angeles team proved once again why they are built for great things this season.
After the All-Star Game, the Californian team extended its lead in the National League West division by extending its winning streak to eight in a row, after a four-game sweep of its archrivals, the San Francisco Giants. The Dodgers now have a 64-30 record, the best in the senior circuit.
Houston Astros
The Astros continue to follow in the Yankees’ footsteps for the American League lead, winning all five of their games this short week.
With a 64-32 record, the Houston team is now 13 games ahead of its closest rival in the American West, the Mariners, a team they swept over the weekend in a visiting match. Earlier on Thursday, in a doubleheader, the Astros defeated the Yankees in both games.
Toronto Blue Jays
After a couple of horrible weeks, the Blue Jays seem to have returned focused from the All-Star Game with a historic sweep of the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park.
The Toronto team, which now has six wins in a row and a 53-43 record, showed no mercy to a Boston squad and scored 28 runs against them on Friday. In this way, the Blue Jays set a franchise record for runs in a game.
Bottom 3
Boston Red Sox
As we discuss the Blue Jays’ awakening, we must also discuss the Red Sox’s dreadful moment, a team that appears to have been left out of any fight this weekend.
In addition to losing Rafael Devers to the injured list, Boston has lost nine of its last ten games – five in a row – and, with a 48-48 record, it is now three games out of the last American wild card and 17.5 games behind the Yankees in the East.
San Francisco Giants
The Giants’ slump continues and this weekend the blow may have been fatal for them after their archrivals, the Dodgers, swept them in a four-game series following the All-Star Game.
San Francisco now has a 48-47 record and while they remain three games out of the last National Wild Card spot, after starting the season fighting in the West they are already third in the division, 16.5 games behind Los Angeles.
Colorado Rockies
Expectations for the Rockies this season have come crashing down due to a pitching staff that has failed to respond to the offensive support they have been given.
This weekend they lost three games to the Brewers despite scoring 18 runs in that span. Pitching allowed 25 runs to Milwaukee’s bats and they now have a 43-53 record, 22 games behind the Dodgers in the West and 7.5 games out of the final National wild card.
