On May 15 of this current MLB season, the stellar duo made up of Adam Wainwright and Yadier Molina, both members of the St. Louis Cardinals, made major league history after earning their 203rd victory in games that began as the pitcher-pitcher battery.
With this impressive figure, the veterans of the St. Louis team surpass the legendary pair of the Milwaukee Braves formed by Warren Spahn and Del Crandall in the historical list.
The feat was achieved in a game that ended with a scandalous score of 15 runs to 6, and even featured the first pitching appearance of one of the best hitters in history, Albert Pujols. The Dominican allowed two home runs in the last inning.
Let’s keep in mind that Wainwright and Molina met during the 2006 season when the Cardinals won the World Series in five games against the Detroit Tigers, with the right-hander as the team’s star closer at 24 years old.
A year later (2007), the American joined the rotation of a San Luis team that at that time was directed by Tony La Russa, where he began a working relationship with the Puerto Rican mask that has been key in the winning era of the franchise in the Central Division of the National League.
In the 2022 Major League Baseball campaign, the Cardinals are in second place in the National League Central Division, with a record of 19 wins and 15 losses.
