Predictions, Picks, and Betting Odds for the 2023 NBA Finals
Miami Heat vs Denver Nuggets
On paper, this upcoming battle in the 2023 NBA Finals between the Miami Heat and the Denver Nuggets looks like the proverbial David vs Goliath. On one hand, there is the No. 8 seed in the Eastern Conference in the form of Miami. On the other hand, there is the No. 1 seed in the Western Conference in the form of Denver.
The Heat had to go through the Play-in Tournament just to earn a spot in the playoffs The Heat even lost to the Atlanta Hawks in their first game in that tourney before outlasting the Chicago Bulls to notch the final ticket in the East to the postseason. The Heat were not at all expected to survive past the first round by nearly every NBA expert. After all, Miami had to get past the Milwaukee Bucks, the top team in the East, in the first round. But Butler and the Heat knew how to perform a miracle and that’s exactly what they did when they eliminated the Bucks in six games. Then they went on to embarrass the New York Knicks in the conference semis before a wild ride in the conference finals against the Boston Celtics.
Denver did not have to go through the Play-in Tournament because the Nuggets were royalty back in the regular season during which they came up with a 53-29 record – way better than Miami’s 44-38 slate. The Nuggets barely had any trouble taking care of business in each of the first three rounds of the playoffs. In the first round, they took out the Minnesota Timberwolves in five games. After that, they walloped the loaded Phoenix Suns squad in six games. LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers were also no match against Denver, as they got swept by Nikola Jokic and company.
Both the Heat and the Nuggets are shooting nicely in the playoffs. The Nuggets lead all teams that made the postseason with a 59.5 TS%, while the Heater are not far behind at fourth with a 58.3 TS%. Miami will have its hands full in trying to contain Jokic, who just dominated Anthony Davis in the previous series, but the Heat have a capable big man in Bam Adebayo. The Heat will be the first ones to admit that they are the underdogs in this series, but they will also be the first to say that they don’t care. After victimizing the overall No. 1 seed in the league and the No. 2 seed in the East, Miami has every right to believe it can defy the odds and defeat Denver. Then again, that is going to be easier said than done against a Nuggets squad that is deeper, bigger, and more efficient than Miami.
Prediction: Nuggets win the 2023 NBA Finals in four games.
