Lionel Messi will have the opportunity to continue collecting career records once the Qatar 2022 World Cup kicks off.

The Argentinean Lionel Andrés Messi is considered one of the best soccer players in history for everything he has achieved throughout his professional career. During his 17 seasons at FC Barcelona he accustomed his followers to see him always winning, as he won a total of 35 titles distributed as follows: 10 Leagues, 8 Spanish Super Cups, 7 Copas del Rey, 4 Champions League, 3 Club World Cups, 3 European Cups.

This record allowed him to become the player with the most titles in the history of the Catalan team. Those are just the collective titles, but Lionel Messi has a great number of records to his name, which have led him to obtain several individual titles, among which stand out his seven Ballon d’Or awards, being the only player in history to have that number of awards.

The rosarino has the chance to continue writing his history in golden letters at the next World Cup in Qatar 2022. The Argentina National Team qualified for the World Cup thanks to Lionel Messi, who will be participating in his fifth and probably last World Cup. For many, although Messi has won everything at club level, he needs the World Cup to be confirmed as the best of all times.

In July 2021 he won the Copa América (America Cup), his first title with the senior national team, and since then he has been more motivated than ever when wearing the jersey of his country, so everything points to the fact that he will do everything possible to win the World Cup.

What Records Could Lionel Messi Break in Qatar 2022?

At the next World Cup, Messi will join the select group of players who can boast of having played in five World Cups. The “10” and captain of the “Albiceleste” participated in Germany 2006, South Africa 2010, Brazil 2014 and Russia 2018.

In those four previous World Cups, the now Paris Saint-Germain player has played 19 matches and in Qatar 2022 he could become the Argentine with the most matches played in World Cups, as Diego Armando Maradona tops the list with 21, followed by Javier Mascherano with 20.

Another record could be possible if Messi and Argentina reached the final of the tournament, as if he plays all seven matches he would reach 26, and become the player with the most appearances in the history of World Cups.

Lionel Messi has won 12 matches with the Albiceleste in World Cups, and the player with the most victories in the history of the tournament is Germany’s Miroslav Klose with 17. If “La Pulga” and his team win all three group matches and advance to the semifinals, he would equal the Teuton’s record. Another record that Messi can break in Qatar 2022 is that of wearing the captain’s cap in more World Cup matches with the Argentine national team. This record belongs to Maradona who captained Argentina in 16 World Cup matches. Messi currently holds 12 captainships.

The table is set and everything will depend on Lionel Messi and Argentina.
