Roger Federer finally has a return date to the ATP circuit, after he has been absent for a long time due to his constant knee problems.

The 40-year-old Swiss tennis player will make his brand new competitive comeback at the ATP 250 indoor tournament in his hometown of Basel on October 25, his agent Tony Godsick told The Associated Press.

“Roger Federer will seek an 11th title at the Swiss Indoors Basel this year, with the five-time ATP year-end No. 1 confirming on Tuesday that he will play at the ATP 500 event to be held from 24-30 October,” says the statement issued by the organization of the prestigious event on the entry of Federer, who has won the champion’s trophy of this tournament 10 times.

Considering the veteran’s resounding success at this championship, this looks like an ideal comeback for him, signifying his first official appearance since his 2021 Wimbledon quarterfinal loss to Poland’s Hubert Hurkacz, with a score of 6/3 7/6 6/0.

Regarding his current expectations, Federer has been very clear recently. “I want to see for the last time what I am capable of as a professional tennis player,” the Swiss player bluntly stated in an interview granted at the end of 2021.

It is important to remember that it was previously known that Federer and Rafael Nadal are planning to take part in the next edition of the Laver Cup, an event that pits Europe against the Rest of the World, and which this year will be held from September 23 to 25.

Federer is one of the best tennis players in history thanks to memorable performances since the early 2000s.

For life in the ATP, the European has a record of 1,251 wins and 275 losses, for an impressive 82% winning percentage.

In addition, we are talking about a player who has 20 Grand Slam titles, including his 8 Wimbledon conquests, which makes him a living legend of the London event that is currently the subject of a controversy for vetoing the participation of Russians for the 2022 edition.
