Alarm bells start ringing and tension is at its highest level in Golden State after Stephen Curry left Wednesday night’s commitment against the Boston Celtics with discomfort in his left foot.

As revealed by Shams Charania, from The Athletic, the Warriors star immediately underwent an X-ray test in which no fracture was there to be seen, so the team’s medical staff confirmed that he only suffered from a ligament sprain in his left foot that will leave him out of action indefinitely.

The injury occured during the second quarter of the engagement against the Celtics, after Marcus Smart looked for a loose ball near Curry’s foot and took it through the middle in a very dangerous way. After the play, the Warriors point guard ended up with problems walking and was finally taken to the dressing rooms.

ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski would add later in the evening that Golden State is optimistic about Curry’s return for the NBA postseason that begins in April, so in the coming days he will undergo several treatments to give him a speedy and safe recovery.

Curry’s loss adds to that of Draymond Green, who is about to return after more than a month and a half out of action, while golden State’s other figure, Klay Thompson, adds restricted minutes after returning this season from a ruptured Achilles tendon. While it’s a tough time for the Warriors, the team is all but assured of making the playoffs.

Steve Kerr’s Discomfort over Stephen Curry’s Injury

The Warriors coach was at all times very critical of Marcus Smart for the injury he caused to Stephen Curry.

Once the point guard left the commitment, Kerr confronted Smart for a play that the coach considers very “dangerous”.

In fact, Kerr also talked about the issue at the post-match press conference, where he stated that Curry would take tests to determine the severity of the injury. “I think it was a dangerous move and that’s why I was upset. I have a lot of respect for Marcus, he’s competitive. We talked after the game and I let him know that I thought it was a very dangerous play.”

As for Smart, he defended himself against Kerr’s comments by stressing that the coach knows him very well and that he should know that this is not his style of play. “Steve and I know each other from the U.S. National Team. He knows I would never try to hurt anyone,” the Celtics point guard confessed, according to Spotrac’s Keith Smith.

Stephen Curry has again been the soul and life of these Warriors, as in 64 games played he averages 34.5 minutes per game, 25.5 points, 38% from the three-point line and is the leader in the entire NBA in percentage from free throws with an incredible 92%.
