The Best Latin American Tennis Players of 2022
Argentines:
Diego Schwartzman (14 singles)
To begin with, the highest-ranked Latin American tennis player is Argentina’s Diego Schwartzman. Currently, he is in 14th position. He is a great tennis player who became a pro in 2010. Ten years later, in 2020, he reached his highest position (8).
Francisco Cerundolo (30 singles)
Cerundolo has been a surprise this season. Four years ago he became a professional tennis player, and, this season, he won his first trophy against his compatriot Báez in Båstad, Sweden. In Miami, he reached the semifinals and, in Buenos Aires, the quarterfinals. He is a 23-year-old player and is one of the best Latin American tennis players of the next generation.
Sebastián Báez (32 singles)
Báez is ranked 32nd in the world and is a 21-year-old tennis player who turned professional four years ago. He was a finalist in Santiago de Chile, as well as in Båstad. However, in Estoril, Portugal, he was champion. He beat the American Frances Tiafoe in straight sets. He will surely be with Cerundolo in the next gen of Argentine tennis players that will play several tournaments.
Horacio Zeballos (3 doubles)
Zeballos has a career spanning almost 20 years. This year he has won only one title with fellow Spaniard Marcel Granollers in Halle, Germany. Zeballos was a semifinalist at Roland Garros, Melbourne, and Rio. He was also a finalist in Buenos Aires. He is a player with a long career, and, in doubles, he has been a finalist at Wimbledon and the US Open, as well as a semifinalist at the Australian Open and Roland Garros. He has had victories against Rafael Nadal, del Potro, Goffin, Monfils, among others.
Chileans:
Alejandro Tabilo (68 singles)
Tabilo was born in Toronto, Canada, and represents Chile. He is 25 years old, professional since 2015, and left-handed. He still has no titles on the ATP Tour and is one of the best tennis players in Latin America. He currently occupies the 68th position in the ranking. His best results this year have been quarterfinals in Munich, semifinalist in Santiago de Chile, and finalist in Córdoba.
Cristian Garín (70 singles)
In the next position of the best Latin tennis players is Cristian Garín. He is after Tabilo in the ranking. Currently, he has 5 titles, but none this year. He has had very good results in 2022 reaching the quarterfinals in Wimbledon, semifinalist in Houston, and quarterfinals in Rome.
Colombians:
Juan Sebastián Cabal and Robert Farah (19 in doubles)
Now, Cabal and Farah, doubles players, are the best Latin American tennis players representing Colombia in the ATP World Tour. They are two-time Grand Slam champions (Wimbledon and US Open, 2019) and Australian Open finalists. In 2019, having won both Grand Slams, they occupied the first position in the doubles ranking.
Camila Osorio (65 singles)
The only female tennis player who is part of this list of the best tennis players in Latin America is Camila Osorio: the Colombian who occupies the 65th position in the singles ranking. At only 20 years old, she has one title in her entire career, and the highest position she has held is 33rd. She won the US Open in the Junior category in 2019. This season, she has been a finalist in Monterrey and Tenerife. Also, she has been semifinalist in Belgrade and Bogotá.
