After the NBA showed us its selections for the All-NBA Defensive Teams a few days ago, the league shows us its selections for the best American basketball teams in this 2021/22 season.
The teams are made up of the most outstanding players by position in the NBA, who have been selected to form three different teams. Some decisions have caused controversy, as usual, but you can judge for yourself if the decisions were correct.
All-NBA Teams 2022: First Quintet
Player | Team |
Nikola Jokić | Denver Nuggets |
Giannis Antetokoumpo | Milwaukee Bucks |
Luka Dončić | Dallas Mavericks |
Devin Booker | Phoenix Suns |
Jayson Tatum | Boston Celtics |
Jokić was an expected selection, as the Serb won the league MVP award again, what marks his fourth straight selection to an All-NBA team, and third to the first team. Another foreigner who has made back-to-back All-NBA appearances is Luka Dončić, as the young Mavericks’ superstar was selected for the third consecutive first-team selection.
Including Antetokoumpo and Tatum is not surprising, as the former continues to sweep the Bucks as usual, while the latter has led the Celtics to contention in the Eastern Conference finals.
However, many fans feel Devin Booker didn’t do enough to make it to the first team even though the Phoenix Suns finished top of the Western Conference, with another second-team player having more merit to be in his spot.
All-NBA Teams 2022: Second Quintet
Player | Team |
Joel Embiid | Philadelphia 76ers |
Ja Morant | Memphis Grizzlies |
DeMar DeRozan | Chicago Bulls |
Kevin Durant | Brooklyn Nets |
Stephen Curry | Golden State Warriors |
DeMar DeRozan made a positive impact in his first season with the Chicago Bulls, helping lead the team from ostracism in the Eastern Conference back to the postseason after many years, earning his second All-NBA second-team selection.
It’s often rare to see Stephen Curry out of the top, but the Warriors’ four-time first-team player hasn’t had his best season in part because of injuries, and the numbers in this campaign were not the best for what the player has accustomed us to.
The most controversial selection is that of Ja Morant, who according to the criteria of many he was deserving enough to make the first team in Booker’s place after leading the Memphis Grizzlies to a second-place finish in the struggling Western Conference, and even the player himself seemed to take his exclusion from the first team as a “bad joke.”
Other than that, this is Morant’s first All-NBA selection, and he’s sure to have a chance at that first-team spot down the line in what looks set to be a brilliant career.
All-NBA Teams 2022: Third Quintet
Player | Team |
Karl-Anthony Towns | Minnesota Timberwolves |
LeBron James | Los Angeles Lakers |
Pascal Siakam | Toronto Raptors |
Chris-Paul | Phoenix Suns |
Bring Young | Atlanta Hawks |
It is the second time that LeBron James has been selected for the All-NBA third team in his career, increasing his number of appearances in teams of this nature to 18, which is a record amount in the league, surpassing other historic players like Tim Duncan, Kobe Bryant, and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, who each got 15 selections.
“King” James’ season was also marred by injuries, but he averaged 30.3 points, 8.2 rebounds and 6.2 assists, which are mind-boggling numbers considering his team’s poor performance this season.
