Checo Perez had problems with his car during the Canadian GP and was forced to abandon the race after only nine laps due to a gearbox failure caused by a collision with the barriers during qualifying. The car is in need of repair and it won’t be cheap.
Motorsport revealed the approximate figure of how much it will cost to fix the Red Bull car damaged by the Mexican driver, Sergio “Checo” Pérez, and you’ll be shocked to find out how much is it.
The gearbox will have to be replaced at a cost of $354,000 dollars, which is equivalent to about $7,032,528 in Mexican pesos. That’s only for the gearbox, but it should be remembered that it was not the only damage suffered by Checo Perez’s RB18.
Checo Perez Damaged Gearbox and Front Wing
The other damaged part of the car was the front spoiler and that will cost $141,500 dollars, which in Mexican pesos would be $2,811,024. The total cost of repairing the Austrian team’s car will be $495,500 dollars, the equivalent of $9,843,553 million Mexican pesos.
The team has changed the gearbox of the car piloted by the Mexican driver three times now, first before the Bahrain Grand Prix, then before the Monaco Grand Prix, and now again.
Formula 1 teams are allowed to change the gearbox, but only three times. If Checo Perez had another problem with the same part and had to change it, he would suffer a five-place grid penalty at the next Grand Prix.
Nine of the 22 races on the 2022 Formula 1 Season calendar have already taken place, and Red Bull now leads the Constructors’ championship, so we assume they will have little trouble making repairs to the vehicles, so their drivers can continue to perform on the track.
It should be noted that the Dutch driver, Max Verstappen, and Checo Pérez are in first and second place in the Drivers’ championship, respectively. In addition, they still have budget available, so there are no problems for now.
