After firing Frank Vogel for failing to lead the team to the postseason in this 2021/22 NBA campaign, the Los Angeles Lakers continue to search for a head coach to take the position next season, and they will be doing some final rounds of interviews before making a decision on who will be in charge of directing LeBron James, Anthony Davis, and company.
This was announced by Shams Charania of The Athletic, who also mentioned the remaining candidates for the position. We’re talking about former Portland Trail Blazers head coach Terry Stotts, Milwaukee Bucks assistant Darvin Ham, and Golden State Warriors assistant Kenny Atkinson.
These are just some of a long list of names that the Lakers manage for the position of head coach,which also includes former Warriors head coach Mark Jackson, and the franchise is also known to have requested permission to interview Toronto Raptors assistant Adrian Griffin.
Keeping this in mind, it probably won’t be long before we hear about the decision from the Los Angeles Lakers, who have plenty of time to decide considering the amount of time left for next season.
Lakers Coach: This is the Route of the Candidates in the NBA
In their own way, each of the last three candidates selected by the Los Angeles Lakers has vast experience in the NBA, so each one has credentials for the head coaching position.
Terry Stotts has not coached in the NBA since leaving his post with the Trail Blazers after nine years with the team in the 2020/21 season. He has extensive experience in the league, as he has been involved as an assistant or as a head coach since 1990.
Darvin Ham does not yet have head coaching experience, but he has been in high demand for the job, and the Sacramento Kings have already been interested in his services. Ham was part of the Milwaukee Bucks staff that won the NBA title in 2021, so he has a good track record for a Lakers that crave for titles.
Kenny Atkinson already has experience managing in Los Angeles, after being part of the Los Angeles Clippers staff during the 2020/21 season. However, his numbers as a head coach have not been that impressive, and his last experience in that role was with the Brooklyn Nets, where he had a record of 118-190 from 2016 to 2020.
