On Wednesday, MLB announced the (so far) top vote-getters for the 2022 All-Star Game to be played on July 19 at Dodger Stadium, home of the Los Angeles Dodgers.
In this issue, we provide a list of the league leaders and how they are shaping up to be the most voted between now and the election’s close on June 30.
American League – 2022 All-Star Game
The competition in the young circuit is being won by the top MVP candidate, New York Yankees outfielder Aaron Judge.
The batter leads the American with 1,512,368 votes: the highest figure for any ballplayer between the two circuits. Judge is first in home runs in all of the majors with 25 hits, and no one has more runs scored (55) and SLG percentage (.644) than he does.
He is followed by the Anaheim Angelinos’ stellar outfielder Mike Trout who, despite missing some games due to injury and going through the biggest slump of his career, is still polling high.
Trout has 1,295,854 votes thanks to his 21 home runs, 43 runs batted in, .285 average and a very good OPS of 1.025.
The third place is occupied by a rather surprising name: Toronto Blue Jays catcher Alejandro Kirk. The Mexican was not expected to be a starter at the beginning of the season, but his great offensive performance earned him a spot within the team.
For this count he has 1,057,008 votes thanks to his .304 average with the bat, in addition to his seven homers and 24 runs batted in.
National League – 2022 All-Star Game
The National League is similarly dominated by outfielders, with Mookie Betts receiving the most votes in the league.
Although his participation in the All-Star Game is doubtful due to a broken rib that sent him to the injured list, the Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder has accumulated 1,446,050 votes thanks to the 17 home runs and 40 runs batted-in in 60 games.
Close behind him is Ronald Acuña Jr. the Atlanta Braves’ outfielder who, despite having started to play on April 28th, is one of the best in the league.
The Venezuelan has registered 1,398,563 votes in his favor thanks to his seven home runs, 18 towers, 12 stolen bases and .282 average after 40 games played.
In third place is Bryce Harper, a Philadelphia Phillies star who has taken advantage of the arrival of the designated hitter to continue playing despite some physical discomfort.
With his 21 doubles, 15 home runs, 48 towers and a spectacular .326/.391/1.013 offensive line, Harper has earned the support of 1,059,433 fans.
