The French GP will be held from July 22 to 24, starting with free practice, followed by qualifying, and ending with the Sunday race. It is the 12th race of the season and the one that marks the start of the second part of this year’s Formula 1 season, and the summer break is getting closer and closer.
The venue for the French GP is the Circuit Paul Ricard, a 5.84 kilometers long track, and it consists of 53.
The team that has won the most times in this circuit is Ferrari with 17 victories, but the Scuderia’s last victory was in 2008. Below, we tell you about the previous aspects to take under consideration for this Grand Prix.
French Grand Prix | What to Watch for This Race on July 24, 2022
Max Verstappen and Red Bull Look To Return to Victory
Max Verstappen leads the Drivers’ Championship and Red Bull the Constructors’ Championship, but in the last two races they have been in trouble, failing to win them. This is the time to return to victory so as not to jeopardize the top of the standings, as Ferrari remains their main competitor this season.
The Dutch driver could come in hopeful, as in the last edition of the French GP, he took the victory.
Ferrari to Try to Put Pressure on Red Bull
Ferrari won the last two races and that means the team is going through a good moment. They will have to take advantage of this boost if they want to put pressure on Red Bull. Charles Leclerc has three wins this season already, and has been the team’s best driver, which puts him in second place in the Drivers’ Championship with 170 points, 38 behind Verstappen. Meanwhile, Spaniard Carlos Sainz is in fourth position with 133 points.
Ferrari has 17 wins at this circuit and will be looking for #18 this weekend.
Williams to Test Single-Seater Improvements
Williams is in tenth position in the Constructors’ Championship with three units. However, prior to the French GP, they announced that they will present improvements in their two cars, so the time has come to see if they will be able to compete directly with the bests.
Alex Albon has already had the opportunity to test the changes, but here, for the first time, it will be Nicholas Latifi who will do it. The Canadian has been the worst performer of the two Williams drivers, as he has not scored any points.
Lewis Hamilton Will Try to Repeat the History of 2018 and 2019
British driver Lewis Hamilton has yet to score victories in the 2022 season. However, he has been on the podium three times in a row, and that is clear evidence that the situation has improved for him in recent times. The two victories he took at the French GP in the 2018 and 2019 editions must be present in his memory, and he will surely be looking for his first win of this campaign to be here.
Hamilton’s last victory was at the 2021 Saudi Arabian GP on December 5.
Mick Schumacher on Points at a Circuit With Family Memories
Germany’s Mick Schumacher has recorded points in the last two races, his first in the top F1 class. He has had a rather rocky start to the season with Haas, but now, he is enjoying a great moment.
The Paul Ricard circuit brings back fond memories for his family, as here his father Michael Schumacher, one of the legends of motor racing, won eight times (1994, 1995, 1997, 1998, 2001, 2002, 2004 and 2006), and is the ultimate winner of the French GP. It would be a dream for him to record his best F1 result in this territory dominated by his father.
