The Los Angeles Dodgers did not give Trea Turner a contract extension offer prior to the start of the 2022 MLB season.
“It’s like I talked about before, [I’m open to] having talks if they want to have them and if not, let’s go play baseball,” Turner said during an interview with the Los Angeles Times’ Jack Harris.
The stellar California shortstop added: “So no talks, no nothing. We’re ready to go play.”
Let’s keep in mind that Turner just signed a one-year, $21 million deal to avoid arbitration, and everything seems to indicate that it will be in the next free agency when he signs a multi-year contract that would place him as one of the highest paid players in the Major Leagues.
Finally, the infielder talked about the role he had to play last year for the Dodgers, given the presence of Corey Seager at shortstop. “Second base, I think I said it numerous times, it just felt so weird, out of place. But it was what was asked of me, so I tried to do the best I could. I’m really excited to go back [to shortstop],” the American concluded.

Since his arrival to the Los Angeles Dodgers, Trea Turner has shown an all-star level in the middle of the offensive heart of the lineup assembled by manager Dave Roberts.
After playing 52 games with the Los Angeles team, the 28-year-old has a .338 average and a .385 OBP, with 70 hits and 10 home runs.
If he can stay healthy through the regular round of the 2022 season, Turner will form a luxury trident at the top of the Dodgers’ offensive order alongside Mookie Betts and Freddie Freeman.
