The 2022 MLB All-Star Game will not only feature the top performers of the current Major League Baseball season, but also two of the greatest legends of modern baseball.
On July 19, we will also see Miguel Cabrera and Albert Pujols in uniform, according to a new ability granted to Commissioner Rob Manfred in the most recent Collective Bargaining Agreement.
This authority allows Manfred to choose two players who deserve to be part of the mid-season duel based on their performances in the best baseball in the world during their careers, and both Latin American hitters unquestionably have the numbers to qualify.
“I am delighted that Albert Pujols and Miguel Cabrera have agreed to participate in the All-Star Game. Albert and Miguel are two of the most accomplished players of their generation.”
Ken Rosenthal, from The Athletic, added that the presence of Cabrera, in the American League, and Pujols, in the National League, are additions to the original roster, so no selected player will lose his place for the game.
A final All-Star Game for two legends
As is already known, this is the last season as an active player for Albert Pujols, who announced his retirement in the preseason after signing with his beloved team, the St. Louis Cardinals.
Therefore, this call to the All-Star Game will be the Dominican’s last in MLB after participating in 10 of them.
Pujols earned the call for his impressivecareer that includes three MVP awards, two World Series rings, 683 home runs, 3,326 hits, 2,168 RBIs and a .296/.374/.541 offensive line.
As for Cabrera, the 39-year-old Venezuelan has one more season remaining on his contract with the Detroit Tigers, so he could still have another chance to attend the event.
However, the odds are slim and the chance of doing it alongside Pujols, as they are two of the greatest hitters of the last two decades, makes it a very special moment and possibly the last of his immortal career.
Cabrera has previously been called to 11 All-Star Games and has two MVP awards, a Triple Crown, four batting titles, 505 home runs, 3,065 hits and a .310/.386/.528 offensive line.
