Betting on the Minnesota Vikings (-3.5)
Regular season record: 0-3
The sky is falling for the Vikings, but it’s not yet the end of the world for them. Coming off a 28-24 home loss in Week 3 to the Los Angeles Chargers, Minnesota’s hunt for that elusive first win in 2023 continues this week in Carolina. Despite a 0-3 record, the Vikings should feel very good about their chances of beating the Panthers.
For one, Kirk Cousins is playing at a high level. With Cousins, the Vikings have the clear quarterback edge over the Panthers, who are either going with rookie Bryce Young or veteran Andy Dalton. So far in the 2023 NFL regular season, Cousins has passed for 1,075 yards and nine touchdowns with only two interceptions, while connecting on 69.6 percent of his throws. Meanwhile, running back Alexander Mattison is trending positively after rushing 20 times for 93 yards in the Chargers game. He could have a field day versus the 27th-ranked run defense of the Panthers.
Betting on the Carolina Panthers (+3.5)
Regular season record: 0-3
As mentioned above, it is possible that the Panthers might not have Young under center in Week 4. Young missed Week 3’s 37-27 road loss to the Seattle Seahawks due to an ankle issue and is currently deemed questionable to play versus the Vikings.
If he can’t go, the Panthers will once again turn to Dalton, who is washed in the eyes of many, but showed in Week 3 that there’s still plenty of gas left in his tank, as he passed for 361 yards and two touchdowns with zero interceptions on 34/58 throws. With Dalton throwing the ball, veteran wideout Adam Thielen had his first great game in Panthers uniform, as he racked up 145 receiving yards and a touchdown on 11 receptions. He could have another awesome performance in Week 4 in a potential revenge-game explosion against his former team.
El Jefe’s Prediction on Minnesota Vikings vs Carolina Panthers
Kirk Cousins will carve up the Panthers’ defense for at least 250 passing yards and two touchdowns in a high-scoring battle that Minnesota will end up winning.
Prediction:
The Vikings win, 33-24.
