Wimbledon 2022 Predictions for Women’s Quarterfinals
Ajla Tomljanovic vs. Elena Rybakina
Australian Ajla Tomljanović is coming off a three-set win over Alizé Cornet, who beat No. 1 Iga Świątek in the third round. It was a demanding match, as Cornet was coming off the back of her last match. On the other hand, Rybakina beat Croatia’s Petra Martić in straight sets in the fourth round and Zheng in the third round. Both are very strong players, however, Rybakina is more likely to outplay Tomljanović, as she has had less strenuous matches and has not dropped a set all tournament.
Simona Halep vs. Amanda Anisimova
On the other hand, the second match of the women’s quarterfinals will be played between Halep and Anisimova. It is probably the most anticipated match because it will be the most even one. Simona Halep won Wimbledon in 2019 and hopes to be crowned the winner again. On the other hand, Anisimova had two three-set matches against Coco Gauff (third round) and Lauren Davis (second round). Now, she has the great challenge of beating Halep, who beat the No. 4 seed, Paula Badosa, in straight sets. In addition, Badosa barely won three games in the entire match.
Without a doubt, Halep is the favorite for the Wimbledon 2022 women’s quarterfinal predictions.
Marie Bouzkova vs. Ons Jabeur
So far, Jabeur is the only top 10 player left in the tournament, so she may be a heavy favorite. Her toughest match so far was in the fourth round against Elise Mertens, which went to a tie-break. However, as in all past matches, she won in straight sets. Jabeur is solid and is, along with Halep and Tatjana Maria, one of the favorites.
In contrast, Bouzková has beaten all her opponents with relative ease, the last one being Caroline García. Her highest Grand Slam result was delivered in the quarterfinals at both Wimbledon and the US Open last year. She surely hopes to reach the semifinals, but for that she will have to face a very confident Jabeur.
Tatjana Maria vs. Jule Niemeier
Finally, the duel between German women. Maria has been the big surprise of this tournament, and since 2007 she has not advanced past the first and second rounds in Grand Slam tournaments. However, she beat Sorana Cirstea (seed No. 26), Maria Sakkari (No. 5) and Jelena Ostapenko (No. 12). As a result, his match against Niemeier may not cause her much trouble.
In contrast, Niemeier beat No. 2 seed Kontaveit in the second round and Heather Watson in the fourth round. This match will be surprising regardless of the outcome.
