The winners of the Major League Baseball Player of the Week award were announced on Monday, as is typical every week; this time, we’ll talk about the most impressive names between July 11 and July 17, 2022.

As announced by the league through its social networks, the winner in the American League was New York Yankees’ utility player Matt Carpenter, while in the National League it was Los Angeles Dodgers’ first baseman Freddie Freeman.

MLB Player of the Week: American League – Matt Carpenter

Player of the Week

Matt Carpenter’s hot streak with the New York Yankees continues to provide us unforgettable moments, as he was named the American League Player of the Week for his stellar batting performance over the last seven days.

After being signed as a free agent in May, the 36-year-old utility has not stopped hitting since arriving in the Bronx and last week finished with a .400 average (15-6), led all Major Leagues in RBI with 12, was second in OPS with 1.683, hit three home runs and added two doubles to the list.

Carpenter had his best performance in the weekend series against the Boston Red Sox, against whom he drove in 10 RBIs between Saturday and Sunday. With the time off due to the All-Star Game, the experienced player finishes the first half with a .354 average, 13 HR and 34 runs in just 31 games.

MLB Player of the Week: National League – Freddie Freeman

Player of the Week

The Los Angeles Dodgers’ best hitter in the first half of the season could not end his performance any other way than by being named the National League Player of the Week for the second time this season and for the seventh time in his career.

Freddie Freeman showed no mercy against opposing pitchers and finished with a .632 average (19-12) and led the Majors in OPS with 1.810. The starter also added two home runs, four doubles and five runs batted in for the NL West division leaders.

With many injury problems in the California offense, Freeman carried the offense in his first season with the team and goes into the mid-season break as the leader in hits in all of baseball with 114. Also, after 90 games his offensive line finished at .321/.397/.530 with 13 HR.
