As is customary every Monday, the winners of the MLB Player of the Week award have been announced; this time, the most outstanding names in the period between July 18 and July 24, 2022.

As announced by the league through its social networks, the winner in the American League was New York Yankees outfielder Aaron Judge, while in the National League it was St. Louis Cardinals first baseman Paul Goldschmidt.

No matter how short the week, Aaron Judge finds games and opportunities to continue to pave his way to MVP and taking home the American League Player of the Week award is one of his merits.

The New York Yankees outfielder played all five of his team’s games in a four-day span and hit an impressive .474 (19-9). Besides, he continued to show signs of his impressive power by hitting four home runs to maintain his Major League-leading 37, and added 11 RBIs (American leader with 81) with an OPS of 1.776.

This is the fifth time Judge has won the award and the second consecutive week a Yankees player has been honored in the junior circuit after Matt Carpenter was the last winner.

In the case of Paul Goldschmidt, the St. Louis Cardinals first baseman showed all his talent in his team’s three-game series against the Cincinnati Reds after the All-Star break.

“Goldy” hit. 462 versus Cincinnati pitching, while also leading the Majors with a 1.852 OPS and four home runs with seven runs batted in. This was more than enough to earn him his second NL Player of the Week award this season, and his fifth overall.

The starter is still the main candidate for MVP of the National League, as he is the leader in average in the senior circuit with .335, in addition to being first in the OBP (.417) and SLG (.619) categories.
