On this occasion, we are going to talk about the most famous reggaeton artists’ tattoos and about the designs that they decided to wear on their skin.
When it comes to choosing tattoos, there are two different types of people and, therefore, different processes. Some take into account deep reflections on their personality, interests, messages representative of a stage of life before thinking about the design. Sometimes, they go for configurations of semiotics with abstract ideas that fill the design with meaning and emotional value. And then, there are those who simply wanted something they thought was cute, period.
Great Reggaeton Artists’ Current Tattoos
The artists we mention below are part of the first group of people, so now we will show you this list of reggaeton artists, some of their tattoos and the reasons or meanings behind them.
Karol G
For those of you who haven’t seen it yet, let’s start by introducing the iconic redhead La Bichota. The tattoo that we will talk about in the case of Karol G, is a blackwork heart made of thorns on her left upper arm. For La Bichota, this heart made of thorns became her battle symbol, which she tattooed before the last Premios Juventud ceremony. She has emphasized how hard it has been to be a woman in the urban genre industry, yet today she is one of the most recognized and beloved female representatives of the genre.
Nicky Jam
He is one of the reggaeton artists with quite a long list of tattoos all over his body, and five of them are on his face. On the left side of his face, very close to his eye, Nicky Jam has tattooed three dots that when joined together form a triangle. This tattoo is popularly known as “Mi vida loca” (my crazy life), a phrase that is used in the street as a symbol of gang life. Many know the story that Nicky had in his youth regarding this whole gangs and street life issue, so he tattooed this as a souvenir on his face.
Maluma
Colombian reggaeton singer Maluma, just like Nicky Jam, has a lot of tattoos all over his body, and many of them have quite a big background for the artist. In this particular case, we will talk about the lion tattooed on the left side of his chest. Regarding this design, the singer says: “I was going through a rough patch and I needed strength. That’s why I had it made.” And we all know the strength and grandeur that the image of this imposing animal represents.
Rosalía
The Spanish singer, songwriter, and producer joins this list since it is no secret that the singer has made a strong incursion into the world of reggaeton in recent years, especially in her latest album “MOTOMAMI”. One of the singer’s tattoos is a strong feminist statement, it is a garter clasp. Rosalía said about her tattoo: “This tattoo was the first one that the artist Valie Export got (also on her thigh). It is the clasp of a garter (fetish made flesh), as a criticism of the objectification of women in the patriarchal system. It vindicates that it is she herself who decides to exhibit her body.”
Bad Bunny
The Puerto Rican singer and rapper got a tattoo whose process was featured in one of the videos of one of his songs, “YONAGUNI”. The reggaeton singer got the logo of the Pokémon Go game. Also, in the same track he makes references to the Naruto anime, sings in Japanese, and ends the music video with an animated version of him walking in the middle of cherry trees, expressing his most personal tastes.
J Balvin
Perhaps one of the most outstanding tattoos of the Colombian reggaetonero, J Balvin, among the many he has, is the word “Familia” tattooed on his chest, covering almost the entire area. About this tattoo the artist says: “Really for me family is the most important thing, and that includes those who support me, and the foundation we have for children with cancer, my blood family. Family implies for me a great feeling, in my chest and in my heart.”
