Sports and fame go hand in hand, so it is not strange to see how countless athletes try or are tempted to make the leap to acting. While some do well, most of them do poorly, and here at Jefebet.com we provide you with a list of five athletes who were lousy performers.
Athletes who were lousy performers: LeBron James
Being one of the best basketball players in history, and for many the best, does not automatically assure you success in other facets of life. This is the case of LeBron James, who didn’t receive very good reviews for his stellar performance in the second part of Space Jam (the first part starred Michael Jordan) and even ended up as a 2022 Worst Actor winner at the Razzie Awards. Too bad for LeBron. He couldn’t win the love of Los Angeles in the movies like he has with the Lakers.
Athletes who were lousy actors: O.J. Simpson
Despite his great talent for soccer, O.J. Simpson seemed hell-bent on ruining everything he did off the gridiron, and his art career was one of those many things. The one-time runner is on our list of lousy actors because he never managed to break into the acting world, no matter how hard he tried. Time and time again he blew it, as he did many times in his life, and he could never succeed in front of a camera as he did when he had the ovoid in his hands.
Athletes who were lousy performers: Shaquille O’Neal
Who doesn’t love Shaquille O’Neal? One of the best centers in NBA history is also known for being a very extroverted character who likes to speak his mind and attract a lot of attention. However, his acting role can be considered lousy when he did not play himself or any basketball player. In two films like “Kazzam” and “Steel”, O’Neal received quite a lot of criticism for his performance, being even nominated for the latter as worst actor at the Razzie Awards. It’s a good thing he traded film cameras for television cameras.
Athletes who were lousy actors: Hulk Hogan
Hulk Hogan’s acting career is worth commenting on, for while his performances were always dire, the 12-time World Champion between WWF/WWE and WCW had many opportunities to improve, all to no avail. His great physique and histrionic ability, which made him one of the best wrestlers of all time, did not help him to succeed behind the cameras.
Despite starring in four or five films and having a large legion of fans called the “Hulkamaniacs,” Hogan never made it to the top and was once nominated for Worst Actor at the Razzie Awards.
Athletes who were lousy actors: Dennis Rodman
“The Worm” (as Dennis Rodman is known) seemed to have everything in his grasp to become a great actor. However, his films were not as good as his performance in real life and on the board. The basketball star was always a showman thanks to his irreverent attitude, his crazy hair colors, his clothes, piercings, earrings and comments, something that made him an ideal specimen for Hollywood.
But there’s a long way from words to deeds, and the NBA Hall of Fame was so lousy that it won almost as many Razzie Awards (three) as NBA championships (five).
