With the mid-season break, we can begin to analyze the main candidates for the most important awards in the Major Leagues, such as the National League MVP.

We will show you the contenders who are leading the voters’ analysis, as well as the betting odds in Las Vegas, in the list below.

MLB 2022 National League MVP Candidates

Austin Riley (+1400)

MVP

Austin Riley is working well as the Atlanta Braves’ fourth batter for the second consecutive season, and while he is well behind in the betting, a strong second half will almost certainly lead him to MVP votes, just as he did in 2021, when he finished seventh in the voting.

Riley is second in home runs in the National League with 27, just two behind leader Kyle Schwarber. He is also second in slugging in the circuit with .575, ranks third in OPS with .922 and his 61 RBIs are the sixth-highest figure.

Mookie Betts (+1100)

MVP

Although betting odds put him on track for a second MVP award, Mookie Betts‘ road to the award appears to be quite long due to the action time he missed during the first half with a rib injury.

The Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder played 73 games in which he recorded 20 HR, 47 RBIs and a .340 OBP.

Pete Alonso (+700)

MVP

With a slight offensive slump between the end of June and so far in July, Pete Alonso slipped a bit out of the top two spots fighting for the 2022 National League MVP award.

The New York Mets’ first baseman is still the leading hitter in the senior circuit with 78 hits, despite the fact that in 17 games this month, he has only totaled nine runs. Alonso is also fourth in home runs with 24 and eighth in SLG at .517.

Manny Machado (+550)

MVP

For much of the first half, Manny Machado was the best batter in the National League. However, some physical discomfort and Paul Goldschmidt’s unstoppable hitting dropped him to second place in the race.

The San Diego Padres third baseman has 15 home runs with 51 runs batted in, although his strongest asset is the very good offensive line he has to his credit. Machado connects for the sixth best batting average in the circuit at .303, is fifth in OBP at .377 and third in WAR at 4.4.

Paul Goldschmidt (+105)

MVP

As in his best days in Arizona, Paul Goldschmidt is on track to win his first National League MVP after twice finishing second.

The first baseman for the St. Louis Cardinals was a veritable sprinkler of hits during the first half and finished as the leader in batting average (.330), SLG (.590), OPS (1.004) and OPS+ (186) in the National League, as well as first in OBP in all of the Major Leagues with .414.

In addition, no one in the senior circuit has scored more runs than him with 64, he is second in hits (112), runs batted in (70) and WAR (45) and sixth in home runs (20).
