Following Jonas Vingegaard’s victory, let us enjoy some Tour de France memes left by the world’s largest and oldest cycling competition.
Tour de France Memes From This Year’s Race
Our list of Tour memes starts with one of the favorites to have won the Tour, Britain’s Geraint Thomas. A day before the run down the Champs-Élysées, the Englishman tweeted this meme about his performance in the race in what he had led up to that day.
Another meme that went around during those days was that of Vingegaard’s pursuit of Pogacar, who took the yellow jersey from him on stage 11, after the Slovenian Pogacar had been able to take the maillor jaune for five sweet stages.
This meme relates to the time trial that began off the Tour de France, when the two time trialists (Wout van Aert and Filippo Ganna) who were expected to win were quickly overtaken by Lampaert, a cycling son of farmers with an agribusiness degree who stunned everyone from the start.
Next on the list of Tour de France jokes is Jonas Vingegaard researching how to beat Tadej Pogačar, despite the fact that we already know he didn’t have any trouble doing it…
Finally, this meme refers to the fifth stage of the Tour, during which Jumbo-Visma experienced severe technical troubles, requiring four of its riders to off their bikes at the same time in order to swap them. Among them was last year’s Tour de France winner, Tadej Pogacar.
The Tour’s general classification, and what’s next on the calendar
So, now you know what memes were left over from this Tour. With a total time of 79 hours, 33 minutes, and 20 seconds, Danish rider Vingegaard won the tour, followed by the young riders’ jersey wearer, Tadej Pogačar, and then England’s Geraint Thomas. Frenchman David Gaudu was fourth, Aleksandr Vlasov fifth and Colombian Nairo Quintana sixth.
The women’s version of the Tour has already started and the next big race is the Vuelta a España.
