The New York Mets placed Robinson Canó on waivers, allowing other teams to express serious interest in signing him for the remainder of the 2022 MLB season for a minimum salary of $775,000.
Although he is in the final stretch of his brilliant Major League career, the 39-year-old Dominican can still be an important piece for any team with aspirations of reaching the World Series in 2022.
4 teams that could sign Robinson Canó:
Detroit Tigers
The Tigers are in last place in the American League Central Division after the first month of the season, and Canó’s arrival would add depth to the infield led by stellar shortstop Javier Báez.
Placing two Latin legends (Canó-Cabrera) together would be extremely interesting for baseball, although the Dominican doesn’t seem to be needed in Detroit due to the presence of Jonathan Schoop at second base and “Miggy” as designated hitter.
Boston Red Sox
Canó would be a better fit in this situation, since he would be able to play second base for the team managed by Puerto Rican Alex Cora.
In addition to that, the arrival of the Dominican player to the team would add a lot of spice to the games against the New York Yankees, because of the years he lived in the Bronx.
Miami Marlins
Considering the lack of experience in the South Florida team’s lineup, the eight-time All Star would be an important addition.
Beyond what he may produce with the bat for the Marlins, Canó’s presence alone would be positive due to the fact that it would bring more fans to the stands at LoanDepot Park, as he is a very popular figure among Latino fans residing in Miami.
Los Angeles Angels
After Shohei Ohtani and Mike Trout, Canó would be one of the players with the experience to produce hits in high-pressure situations.
Having two American League MVP candidates in their ranks has not been enough for the Angelinos to reach the postseason, so the idea of signing veteran stars who already know what it is like to win the World Series, as is the case of the Dominican player, sounds interesting.
