Tennis Movies and TV Shows Made for Every Wimbledon Lover: The Grand Slam on the Grass

5 movies and series that every Wimbledon lover should watch

This Grand Slam has millions of followers around the world, despite being one of the few sports on grass that keeps its traditions almost intact.

JefeBet would like, then, to recommend you 5 movies that every Wimbledon lover should watch. Let’s get started!

1. Wimbledon (2004)

This movie is more geared for those who like hooking romantic comedies. Peter is a Briton who has fallen from 11th to 119th in the rankings, leading him to think that perhaps it is time to retire. However, an American girl named Lizzie joins the scene, and he instantly falls in love with her; however, her father (also her manager) intervenes because he fears that this romance has the chance of jeopardizing his daughter’s career.

2. Match Point (2005)

It is a brutal thriller, directed by Woody Allen. The plot centres around Tom, an Irish tennis player who works in a London club and befriends a wealthy client who introduces him to his sister, who falls in love with the Irishman. But the whole plot thickens when Tom begins an affair with his wealthy friend’s fiancée.

The film uses many metaphors referring to tennis balls bouncing in the nets, as fate and luck decide to interfere.

3. The Prince of the Tennis: Match! Tennis Juniors (2019)

The Prince of Tennis is a TV show based on a classic Japanese manga. It tells the story of a young boy who enrolls in a new school with one of the best tennis teams in the city; this becomes a challenge for him and forces him to grow professionally in order to become as good as his father.

This story makes use of a number of Japanese manga or comic book conventions, which makes it unusually amusing. You have no reason not to see this entertaining film, as it is currently available on Netflix.

4. Borg vs McEnroe (2017).

This biographical film tells the story of two tennis players and their unique relationship on the court, due to their two completely different personalities. On the one hand, the Swedish Björn Borg, who was completely cold and reserved, and on the other hand, John McEnroe, who was much more extroverted and spontaneous. The story shows us a parallel between the life they led on the court, where they were completely different, and off the court, where the human condition made them look more similar.

5. Final Set (2021)

The plot centers on a player who, in his earlier days, was a great tennis prodigy, but is now in a career decline due to a knee injury – in addition to the typical physical deterioration that comes with age – and, at 37 years old, he is nearly a shell of what he once was. This plot avoids the clichés that are common in sports films, which is refreshing.
