The use of steroids in American football is strongly punished by the policy of use of prohibited substances, regardless of whether you are part of the NFL stars’ group. An example of this is the case of DeAndre Hopkins, the stellar catcher who was suspended on Monday for six games, regardless of his status in the league. However, the Cardinals’ player is not an isolated case: the league as a whole is grappling with this issue. Here at Jefebet.com, we bring you a list with five other figures that in the last five years have been suspended for this reason.

Robert Quinn

Robert Quinn tested positive for Probenecid just before starting his one and only season with the Cowboys in 2019. According to his agent, the pills the defensive wing uses for his seizure problems came contaminated with a prescription from a previous customer at the pharmacy where he purchased them. While the NFL admitted that the three-time Pro-Bowler and one-time All-Pro probably did not knowingly use the drug, they still suspended him for the first two games of the season.

Golden Tate

Prior to his first season with the New York Giants in 2019, Golden Tate was suspended for four matches due to the use of a drug he consumed in a fertility treatment he was undergoing to have a baby with his wife. Although the receiver, as soon as he became aware of the drug, stopped taking it and notified the NFL’s testing body, its zero-tolerance policy did not accept the plea of the experienced wide receiver, who ended up being suspended for four games.

Mark Ingram

Mark Ingram began his final season in his beloved New Orleans with a suspension. The running back was punished by the NFL for the first four games of 2018 despite the fact that both he and his attorney alleged that the three-time Pro-Bowler tested positive not for a steroid, but for a drug that can be consumed with exceptions. Although Ingram appealed, the arbitrator ruled in favor of the league.

Julian Edelman

Julian Edelman, a favorite of Tom Brady’s on the Patriots, began the 2018 season on the sidelines after being suspended. Due to the use of a steroid that was never revealed and that Edelman has always denied using, the receiver was suspended for four games. The wide receiver returned to the gridiron with a bang and ended up being the MVP of Super Bowl 53 against the Rams.

1.- Josh Gordon

Josh Gordon should unquestionably be our number one. The 31-year-old receiver, who will play 2022 with the Chiefs, has been suspended six times by the NFL for various reasons, including steroid use. In fact, he was unable to play in the 2015 and 2016 seasons as he was suspended indefinitely for repeated offenses. He was also unable to play in the 2020 season, as he was suspended indefinitely. In January 2021, he was approved to return by commissioner Roger Goodell.
