The MLS receives a brand new Latin player from the hand of the Columbus Crew, who acquired a Colombian player from Watford, a club that was relegated to the Championship after the last Premier League campaign.
The player in question is Cucho Hernández, and the striker arrives in MLS after a transfer that cost approximately between 10 and 10.5 million dollars, as various sources revealed to The Columbus Dispatch.
Cucho Hernández has agreed to a contract that will see him become a “Designated Player” of the Columbus Crew, and will be under contract for three and a half seasons.
Despite the fact that it is already known that both the player and the club reached an agreement on Monday, the official announcement by the Columbus Crew has yet to be made, which is scheduled for this Tuesday.
This will be Cucho Hernández’s seventh team in his young career, since the Colombian is only 23 years old, and this signing marks his return to the American continent after leaving for Spain in 2017 after SD Huesca signed him from América de Cali.
He comes from the Deportivo Pereira academy, and its time in Europe includes teams such as Huesca, Mallorca, Getafe and Watford.
What Can Cucho Hernández Bring to the Columbus Crew?
Cucho Hernández’s time in England was not the best, although it should be noted that the environment in which he found himself was not ideal since Watford was a candidate for relegation in the Premier League from the beginning.
In 28 appearances for the Hornets, the Colombian managed to contribute five goals and three assists, and those five goals saw him tie his best goalscoring record in a European first division in his entire career.
The Columbus Crew will be hoping the Colombian can bring some pizzazz to their offense, which currently ranks fifth worst in the NBA Eastern Conference of the MLS, plus an immediate impact on his part could help the club get into contention for a ticket to the postseason, with those spots being just three points away at the moment.
