In this NFL offseason, the market is still moving, and a new wide receiver has signed with a new team in the last few hours, putting an end to another of the league’s many rumors. He is A.J. Brown, who went from the Tennessee Titans to the Philadelphia Eagles during the draft.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport broke the news that the Tennessee Titans and Philadelphia Eagles reached an agreement that would see wide receiver A.J. Brown head to the fraternal city. In exchange for Brown, the Titans would receive the #18 pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, which they used immediately to replace Brown with Arkansas wide receiver Treylon Burks. Rapoport also commented that the Titans received pick #101, which they will be able to use later in the Draft.

With this, the saga between AJ Brown and the Tennessee Titans comes to an end, as the player would have reached the finish line of his rookie contract at the end of this upcoming season. Despite the fact that he deemed the franchise’s offer as not good enough and chose to distance himself from the team, Tennessee declared that it had no plans to trade the player.

The Philadelphia Eagles offered him a 4-year, $100 million contract, with $57 million guaranteed, which will surely have met the wide receiver’s expectations in a market where players at his position are being highly prized.

Who benefited from A.J. Brown’s transfer?

It was already known that the Philadelphia Eagles were targeting to pick a wide receiver in this 2022 NFL Draft, and they had also been feeling out the possibility of adding one from another franchise.

Considering that the new arrival is A.J. Brown, it can be argued that the Eagles came out on top in this deal, as they acquired league-proven quality instead of taking a gamble in the draft. A.J. Brown is regarded as one of the best players at his position for the future, and he has been making waves with the Titans since his debut. He even broke several franchise records during his time in Tennessee.

A.J. Brown amassed 2,995 total yards since coming to the NFL in 2019 and has scored 24 total touchdowns, while 2020 saw him get called to the Pro Bowl.

Now, the Titans will have to make do in the future without one of the key members of their roster. However, Treylon Burks looks like an interesting project going forward, and has been improving season after season since his 2019 college soccer debut. His first year saw him rush for just 475 yards, while in 2021 his stats rocketed: he rushed for 1104 yards while also scoring 11 touchdowns.

While the loss of AJ Brown will hurt, Tennessee may now have something good on its hands, and it will remain to be seen if the youngster can replicate those numbers at the highest level of U.S. football.
